Lately

This particular poem I wrote while I was really in love with someone and I wasn't sure how mutual the feeling was. Everyday that I spent with that person I was thinking of how I could reach out to them in some profound way and not just make them realize my love, but how much they really loved me.

Have I touched you lately?
Have I rattled your thoughts?
Been the fantasy you’ve sought
when you lie in fitful rest?
Have I made the beating in your chest
feel overwhelmed and erratic?
Have I made you emphatically
question every decision you’ve made lately?
Have I touched you lately?

Have I touched you lately?
Made you speak quickly in my defense,
proclaiming strongly my innocence?
Has it caught you unawares
when you notice how long you stare
at my distracted yet attentive face?
Have I made you yearn to up and race
across the room and tell how your love has grown lately?
Have I touched you lately?

Have I touched you lately?
Have I run my lips along your spine,
and made your strong body wish it were mine?
Made your flesh moan in delight,
made you come ‘til you lose sight
of all existence on this plane but you and I?
Have I made you roll over and cry
in the exquisite bliss never before felt, at least not lately?
Have I touched you lately?

Have I touched you lately?
Have I fulfilled my self-proclaimed duty
to sing the regales of all your beauty?
Have I made you feel completely adored?
Have I told you that for you my heart has soared
with love, admiration, desire, joy, pride,
and an unadulterated respect I can not hide?
Have I completed your thought…your day…your life lately?
Have I touched you lately?
